Nicky Otto, RD
Hi! My name is Nicky Otto and I am the founder of Nicky Otto Dietetics. Nicky Otto Dietetics is an independent nutritional counselling service providing virtually nutritional counselling services to residents of Ontario, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick.
Prior to taking the leap to the East coast and jumping into private practice in 2020, I had the incredible start to my career as part of an amazingly skilled multidisciplinary team at an intensive outpatient eating disorders service in London, Ontario. I had the opportunity to learn, grow and develop my skills while I supported folks struggling with eating disorders beginning in 2013.
I founded Nicky Otto Dietetics in 2020 to help individuals in my community and beyond improve their nutritional health, move past disordered eating, chronic dieting, rebuild a better relationship with food and build their recovery from eating disorders. I take a weight-inclusive, HAES and anti-diet approach to my nutritional counselling. I take a deep dive into health and help you implement health behaviours that add to your quality of life instead of diminish. I do not counsel for weight loss or dieting.
A bit about Nicky: I love to rock climb, mountain bike, hike and time spent in the outdoors. I also love to read, enjoy quality time with family and friends and connecting with others. Food is an important part of my life, but as I say to my clients, there are many other areas that carry more value, worth and purpose. I have always had a love for the sciences, the human body and health. I love to educate and help others navigate the seemingly complex nature of human nutrition. I believe in the power of momentum, consistency and being a little bit better everyday. I can help you challenge your unhelpful thinking when it comes to food and your body. I can help you find food freedom, find the joy in eating and cooking again and I will be your ally as you untangle your relationship with food.
We start with taking action- even when it feels hard. We learn from our experiences and we build for a different tomorrow.
Did you know that services provided by a Registered Dietitian are often covered by extended health benefits?
Registered Dietitians vs. Nutritionists?
According to Dietitians of Canada’s website: “To use the title Registered Dietitian (RD), dietitians must be registered with the dietetic regulatory body in the province in which they practice. Dietitians undergo comprehensive and rigorous training, both on the job and in university. Dietitians are held accountable to the highest standards of education and ethics, which means we look beyond fads and gimmicks to deliver reliable, life-changing advice.” To learn more about these differences click here
Being part of a regulated healthcare profession allows my clients to trust that they are receiving the best possible care. I believe in taking a client-centered approach, providing evidenced-based nutritional information and helping each individual reach their goals and realize their potential to improve their wellness.
